Cursor pricing explained: weekly pools, tiers and what happens at the limit

What each Cursor plan includes, how the weekly pool and the 4x, 15x and 50x ratios work, why Claude and GPT bill separately, and what to do when you hit the limit. Every number is from Cursor's own pricing page and docs.

Quick answer

As of November 1, 2026, Cursor has four paid plans: Plus at $8 a month, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200. Each one includes a weekly pool of usage for Cursor's own models (Grok and Composer), shared with the Grok apps. Premium gets 4x the Plus pool, Super 15x and Ultra 50x, and the pool refreshes every week. Claude, GPT and Gemini are not in the pool. On Premium and above they bill at API list price from prepaid credit, and Plus can't use them at all. When the pool runs out you can wait for the reset, pay from prepaid credit, or upgrade.

How the weekly pool works

Why Claude and GPT bill from prepaid credit

Third-party models like Claude, GPT and Gemini aren't in the weekly pool on any plan. On Premium, Super and Ultra you can still pick them in Cursor, and you pay the model's API list price from the first request, out of prepaid credit. Plus and Free don't get them at all.

Prepaid credit comes from top-ups you buy under Additional usage credits at grok.com/dashboard/billing, or from Auto Top-up, which refills your balance when it drops below a threshold you set. Auto Top-up is off until you turn it on. Cursor says that with it off, additional usage stops once your weekly pool and the credit you already bought are used up. So if your prepaid balance is $0, Claude and GPT requests have nothing to bill against, even on a $200 Ultra plan. Add credit first.

One more catch: the monthly additional usage limit. If you set one, paid usage pauses when you reach it, even if you still have credit, until next month or until you raise the limit.

To give a sense of the cost, Claude Sonnet 5.5 is listed at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. A request that reads 100,000 tokens of code and writes 5,000 tokens would cost about $0.25 before any caching discount. Prices for every model are in Cursor's model pricing table.

What to do when you hit the weekly limit

Cursor gives you three options: wait for the weekly reset, keep working on prepaid credit at the same per-model rates, or upgrade to a bigger pool. Requests are never downgraded in quality or speed, so nothing gets worse while you decide.

Upgrade math per dollar

How much weekly usage each Cursor plan gives per dollar, compared with Plus
PlanPrice a monthWeekly poolUsage per dollar (Plus = 1.0)Step up from the tier below
Plus$81x1.0n/a
Premium$304x1.07+$22 for 3x more pool
Super$10015x1.2+$70 for 11x more pool
Ultra$20050x2.0+$100 for 35x more pool

Our math from Cursor's published ratios: the pool multiple divided by the price, with Plus set to 1.0. It covers Cursor's own models only, not Claude or GPT.

Ultra gives about 1.7x more usage per dollar than Super, and twice as much as Plus. Premium and Super are only a little better per dollar than Plus. So:

A cheaper second tool

If you mainly want Claude or GPT inside the plan price, Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf) Pro is $20 a month, and its quota includes frontier models from OpenAI, Claude and Gemini. It refreshes daily and weekly, so you can hit a limit there too. See Cursor vs Windsurf (Devin Desktop) pricing for the full comparison.

Old monthly plans vs the new tiers

If you subscribed before The X Subscription launched, you're on a legacy Cursor plan. It keeps working at the same price until you change or cancel. New customers can only buy the new plans.

Cursor says each new paid plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with Cursor models as the legacy plan it replaces. The trade-off is that the included allowance for third-party models goes away. If you rely on Claude or GPT on Pro today, price in the prepaid credit you'd need before you switch. Switching is permanent and can't be undone.

FAQ

How much is in the Cursor Plus weekly pool?

Cursor doesn't publish a fixed number of tokens or dollars for it. It only gives ratios: Premium is 4x Plus, Super is 15x and Ultra is 50x. Different models draw from the pool at different rates, and your remaining usage and next reset date show in your editor settings and under Usage at grok.com/dashboard.

Why can't I use Claude or GPT in Cursor on Premium?

Claude, GPT and Gemini are not part of any plan's weekly pool. On Premium and above they bill at the model's API list price from the first request, paid from prepaid credit. If your prepaid balance is $0, there is nothing to pay for those requests with, so add credit or turn on Auto Top-up at grok.com/dashboard/billing. On Plus they are not available at all.

Does Grok use up my Cursor pool?

Yes. Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice, Grok Bot and Cursor all draw from the same weekly pool, at different rates per product. The Grok API is billed separately and doesn't touch the pool.

Does unused Cursor usage roll over?

No. Cursor says unused included usage does not roll over on any plan. Prepaid credit is different: it doesn't reset with the weekly pool and stays available until you use it or it expires, currently 365 days after purchase.

Will Cursor slow down or switch me to a worse model when I hit the limit?

No. Cursor's docs say requests are never downgraded in quality or speed. You get a notification in the editor, and then you choose: wait for the reset, keep going on prepaid credit, or upgrade.

Do I have to move off my old Pro or Pro+ plan?

No. Legacy plans keep working at the same price until you change or cancel. Switching is optional, but it is permanent. The new plans include at least twice the coding usage with Cursor models of the legacy plan they replace, but they drop the included allowance for third-party models.

Is yearly billing cheaper?

Yes. Every tier costs 10 times the monthly price for a year: $80 for Plus, $300 for Premium, $1,000 for Super and $2,000 for Ultra. That works out to 2 months free.
